While nearby cities have approved legislation for medical marijuana, North Ridgeville is not quite ready to make that move.
On May 15, city officials approved a committee-of-the-whole report, dated May 1, to adopt a ban on the cultivation, processing and retail sale of medical marijuana in the city due to the conflict in federal law and the lack of rules provided by the state.
A few months ago, North Ridgeville put a moratorium on medical marijuana businesses, according to Council President Bernadine Butkowski.
“We placed the moratorium on medical marijuana businesses because we wanted to see what was happening at the state level,” Butkowski said. “The state has not come up with legislation for these facilities, so we can’t make an intelligent decision with no information.”
Although other cities in the county have green-lighted this legislation, Butkowski said they don’t know what they are getting into.
