Wellington leaders consider medical marijuana ordinance (WPEC)
WELLINGTON, Fla. (CBS12) —
As Palm Beach County’s first medical marijuana dispensary opened in Lake Worth on Tuesday, Village of Wellington city leaders prepared to discuss an ordinance which could pave the way for such businesses there.
The Wellington Village Council is set to meet Tuesday evening at Village Hall.
One of the items on the agenda is an ordinance governing medical marijuana dispensaries and all pharmacy facilities.
The discussion could be lively; there’s a sentiment among some that Wellington — a place home to so many families with young children — is not a good fit with medical marijuana operations.
The proposed ordinance would require all medical marijuana businesses be located at least 1,000 feet from public or private schools.
The ordinance, as written, calls for most dispensaries to have at least 10,000 square feet of floor space and the proposal would place a limit of no more than one dispensary or pharmacy
