City officials can expect $145,000 over five years if New Age Care LLC obtains a permit to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in New Castle.
New Castle city council last night unanimously approved a community benefit agreement with New Age Care, which laid out the intentions of the agency to support the nonprofit organizations that address serious social needs of the community, including homelessness, hunger, public safety, education, exercise and drug abuse programs.
Since notified of the agency’s interest, city solicitor Jason Medure negotiated an agreement with the company more than doubling its initial offer to city officials.
Assistant solicitor Jonathan Miller yesterday said Medure contacted the company who has agreed to make a $20,000 one-time contribution to the city and to provide $25,000 per year for five years if awarded a permit to operate a dispensary.
Councilmen said it did not hurt to ask.
“They doubled their first offer,” said Councilman Tim Fulkerson. “You can’t complain about that,” agreed Councilman Richard Beshero.
