PEORIA, Ill – The debate continues as many push for legalization of marijuana in the Land of Lincoln.
Lawmakers aren’t just looking at the change this could make on dollars and cents but the changes in social justice as well..
“We can talk business all we want but we have to have criminal justice reform, throughout the nation we are address criminal justice reform,” State Representative Marcus Evans (D-Chicago) said. “Here in Illinois we have to lead the way.”
This new bill legalizing the use of recreational marijuana would make some major changes but it would also add a number of restrictions.
“This legal market actually helps to eliminate the street market where dealers dont card youth. Where youth report a very high accessibility of cannabis products,” said State Representative Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago).
Requiring vendors to add safety labels on all products and enacting a minimum purchasing age of 21 or older are some of the few restrictions lawmakers are planning to add into this bill.
They say just as many other states across the country, Illinois will
