TEWKSBURY – The residents of Tewksbury approved the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries within town boundaries via a ballot question in 2012, with 57.5 percent of voters in support. Since the 2012 statewide vote to legalize medical marijuana facilities was passed, towns in Massachusetts have been required to zone areas for these facilities.
Tewksbury’s marijuana overlay district encompasses the point of land where Old Boston Road and Main Street meet, including the former Nissan dealership across the street.
A recent presentation by Trichome Health to the Board of Selectmen outlined the details of a proposed facility, including safety measures, a site plan, and list of products to be sold. It is important to note that Tewksbury voters supported the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries but not recreational marijuana retail outlets. The company states that it provides access to valuable medication for patients in the Commonwealth.
The Board of Selectmen will consider the proposal but have not made any decisions at this point.
