As the state works toward drafting regulations to govern the sale of recreational marijuana, the Concord Board of Health is prepared to present an article at Town Meeting to prohibit non-medical marijuana establishments in Concord.
Article 30 was presented at a public forum Wednesday night at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School.
The Select Board hosted the forum, and Article 30 dominated the discussion.
According to a Board of Health handout, “Allowing non-medical marijuana establishments is not in the best interests of the town, especially its youth.”
Bill Montague, owner of Montague Gallery in Concord Center, told those attending the forum if Concord doesn’t allow the sale of recreational marijuana, then it will lose revenue, because other towns will sell it.
“People are going to buy it anyway,” Montague said, “so why not buy it from us.”
Kelli Kirshtein has spent the past 21 years as a school adjustment counselor in the CCHS Guidance Department, and she disagreed with Montague.
“The notion that retailers will benefit will blow up in our faces,” Kirshtein said.
